The Australian Grand Prix continues at the Phillip Island circuit, and the weather conditions are improving. At the end of the practice session, which qualifies the 10 fastest drivers directly into Q2, Marco Bezzecchi set the fastest time in 1:26.492. This time is a new benchmark in MotoGP on the Phillip Island circuit. Friday afternoon ended in perfect fashion for Aprilia, as behind the Italian, Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse Racing) set the second fastest time in his final effort.
Just like in the morning, Pecco Bagnaia went out onto the track... and went straight back into his pit box, feeling a bit uncomfortable on his Ducati. After asking his engineers for help, he set off again, and the difference was noticeable. At the end of the session, he qualified for Q2 with the 9th fastest time. The brand, deprived of Marc Márquez this weekend, can nevertheless count on Fabio Di Giannantonio (3rd), and Alex Marquez (5th), to defend its colors.
At KTM, Pol Espargaro impresses. Replacing Maverick Vinales for the round, the Spaniard finished as the best KTM rider in the tests. Eighth under the checkered flag, he was propelled into Q2 with his compatriot Pedro Acosta, who qualified despite a crash. Brad Binder and Enea Bastianini will advance to Q1.
On the Japanese side, fabio quartararo (Yamaha) set the 4th fastest time in practice, ahead of his teammate Alex Rins. The fastest rider in FP1, Jack Miller, was only 13th at the end of the hour of running, and will therefore go through to Q1 in front of his home crowd. For Honda, only Luca Marini made the top 10. Frenchman Johann Zarco could do no better than 15th.
