Barcelona – Qualifying: Bagnaia takes a significant advantage

Free Practice 2:

  • Free Practice 2 is the last opportunity for Jorge Martín and Pecco Bagnaia to prepare for a crucial qualifying session. In this final in Barcelona, where everything can still be decided, it will be imperative for each of them to put themselves at the front to defend their interests, given the number of drivers who have shown themselves to be competitive since the beginning of the weekend.
  • In terms of time, Bagnaia and Martin did not stand out in these FP2, which was not at stake. They finished the session eleventh and twelfth. On the contrary, Maverick Viñales completed a lap in 1:40.208, to finish the session in first place.

MotoGP Barcelona – Qualifying Results

Qualification 1:

  • While a few drivers are taking part in Q1, the Q2 qualifiers are already preparing for the next session. On the track, fabio quartararo and Franco Morbidelli are the first to get in front, but Raul Fernandez and Joan Mir get involved in the fight.

  • In the last attempts, however, the Spaniard missed his mark, while Quartararo and Morbidelli improved. The Frenchman made up for a complicated Friday, and ensured he was on one of the first four rows on the starting grid thanks to a time of 1:39.404, two tenths slower than the Italian's 1:39.145.

Qualification 2:

  • In the first attempts, it was Pecco Bagnaia who took the lead. The Italian clocked a time of 1:38.835, two tenths ahead of Martin. An additional constraint for the Spaniard: Marc Marquez came between him and Bagnaia. It should be noted that the latter was helped by his great friend, Aleix Espargaró, without however managing to get close enough to the Ducati n°1.

  • A few minutes later, the top three went out again, and Bagnaia added another layer. This time, Martin could not compete, but he was mostly overtaken by other competitors. Aleix Espargaró narrowly missed pole position, while Franco Morbidelli finished fourth. A position that Martin would nevertheless manage to take back from his teammate.
  • The Italian will therefore have a clear path at the start, but will have to be wary of the Aprilia rider who does not hide his support for Jorge Martin. The start of the Sprint will be given at 15:00 p.m. in Barcelona. As a reminder, Jorge Martin will have a first match ball.
  • Behind the two title contenders, Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco will share the fourth row, tenth and twelfth respectively. A slight disappointment for the Cannes player who had set himself the second row as his objective.
