The popular saying goes "never two without three", and that is exactly what fabio quartararo achieved his third consecutive pole position this Saturday by taking pole position for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. While he set the fastest time in qualifying on the twisty circuits of Jerez and Le Mans, the Yamaha rider was this time the fastest on the vast Silverstone circuit, with its many fast corners.

A performance that wasn't necessarily expected, as demonstrated by the first run of Q2, where Marc Márquez had a few lengths in front. Yet, it was the Frenchman who ultimately took pole position, thanks to an excellent second flying lap. This made him very happy, as he explained to Canal+ a few moments after the end of the session.

“This morning, because of the rain last night, there was less grip and my pace was slower. We saw that on the first run where I was three tenths behind Marc (Márquez). But we still managed to put in a really good lap, so I'm very satisfied. We're missing a little bit of pace because the tire is losing a lot of performance. But I'm satisfied to be fast and very happy to be on pole position!”

Far from the Ducati, but constantly improving

As has often been the case since the start of the season, it was on one lap in particular that Iwata's machine managed to shine. Against the numerous Ducatis that will start behind him, Fabio Quartararo expects to have a tough time, both in the sprint race and in the Grand Prix. But the fact that he can now compete on all types of tracks in qualifying is an extremely positive point.

"We're still a long way from the Ducati, but we're getting closer. I have enormous confidence in my bike over a single lap, but over long runs it's something else. We're making progress on the electronics, but we're wearing out the rear tire too much. That's the work we're trying to build with Yamaha."
