The mid-season often brings its share of surprises in the transfer market, and the 2025 season is no exception. As the driver market heats up for 2026, attention is also turning to the future of the Tech3 team, currently led by Frenchman Hervé Poncharal.

The latter confirmed, during an interview with MotoGP.com in Aragon, that he is seriously studying different options to ensure the sustainability of his team, while a well-known face from the world of Formula 1 Knocking on the door: Günther Steiner. As a new regulatory era approaches, scheduled for 2027, Hervé Poncharal says his priority is to secure Tech3's future. All options are therefore being considered.

"As Winston Churchill said, to govern is to foresee, and I need to think, He explains. Clearly, for the moment, I have a super good business, but in case this organization cannot be the same from 2027 to 2031, I must prepare what you can call a Plan B. It is always interesting to listen to the people who come to invest. Which means that your company and the championship MotoGP are an exciting prospect to invest in.”

Günther Steiner's interest in Tech3 is no longer just a rumor. The former Team Principal of Haas F1, made famous by the Netflix series Drive to Survive, has already attended MotoGP Grands Prix in 2025. At 60, the American led Haas F1 from 2016 to 2023, before handing over to his right-hand man Ayao Komatsu.

Guenther Steiner, one pretender among others

Since then, he has been without a job, apart from a few appearances as a TV consultant. His experience in the F1 paddock, from Jaguar to Red Bull (where he was technical director before being replaced by Adrian Newey) via Haas, makes him an atypical profile for the MotoGP world. But his attraction to anything that goes fast, whether on two or four wheels, is beyond doubt.

"I have many requests to answer, one of them, as you know, is Guenther Steiner, to whom I like to talk, confirms the boss of Tech3. He's a very straightforward person and a very nice person to potentially work with. So, right now, I'm listening to the proposal. It could be to come in as a shareholder, as a partner, but it could also be to buy the entire team. What I'm pushing for is to ensure the possibility of being alive in 2027-2031. With the Tech3 name, with my base, my team, and different investors. Just to make things safe.

The team boss, however, points out that Steiner is not the only one in the race. "There are clearly other parts. It's quite difficult because they're all quite interesting. So it's quite difficult to decide what will be the best. I think if we open our capital or if we decide to eventually sell, it should be by the end of 2025. Because 2026 should be a transition year to be fully ready from 2027."

Despite ongoing discussions, Poncharal confirms that Tech3 will remain with KTM until the end of 2026, as per their contract.
