Thanks to Lars Kern's steering and a new performance kit, the Porsche drove two seconds faster than the Tesla.

Never has a production electric car been so fast on the terrible northern loop of the Nürburgring (Germany). On August 10, 2022, a Porsche Taycan Turbo S completed a lap of the legendary Nordschleife in just 7'33''3, a margin of two seconds over the Tesla Model S Plaid.

This performance was achieved by in-house driver Lars Kern, a local specialist and entered in the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring with Porsche in GT3. “In the past, only highly prepared sports cars could achieve these times, He explains. With a new performance kit, I was able to push more and the car was more precise and agile. »

Indeed, the Taycan Turbo S was equipped with a kit developed by Porsche Tequipment. Currently only available in Germany for the 2023 model of the electric vehicle for a check for 13 euros. The Performance Pack includes wide 377-inch RS-Spyder rims, shod with road-legal Pirelli P Zero Corsa sports tires. The Porsche 21D Chassis Control software (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control or PDCC) is specially updated to synchronize the tires and chassis.

The pack is unique in that it can work with standard tires in order to drive on open roads. On this record, the Taycan beat a more powerful Tesla. The Porsche develops up to 460 kW (625 horsepower) while the American sedan displayed in September 2021 772 kW (1 horsepower) and an equivalent weight (035 kg for the Tesla empty compared to 2 kg empty for the Porsche ). This therefore means that the dynamic behavior of the German chassis is exceptional.
