The announcement was expected, and now it's official. This Friday, July 4, Tim Mayer, former FIA steward, confirmed his candidacy for the presidency of the body. Thus, in the election scheduled for next December, he will face current president Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

He is officially the first declared candidate, just a week after the former world rally champion, Carlos Sainz Sr, also interested in the position, decided not to apply.

In a statement, the 59-year-old American stated that he will focus his campaign on bringing new energy, a new direction, and renewed integrity to the FIA. In this context, he launched FIA Forward, with objectives including fair and open governance. He also focused on the future of international championships, with strengthened professional leadership.

Tim Mayer is a well-known and respected figure in many areas of international motorsport. Notably in Rallycross, Formula E, World Championship ofEndurance et Formula 1, with 34 years of professional experience.

Among his many positions, Tim Mayer served as Executive Vice President of Sports Operations for IndyCar/Champ Car from 1998 to 2003. But also director of operations of theIMSA and the American Le Mans Series from 2004 to 2009. Thus, he has an in-depth knowledge of the FIA ​​and its organizational structure.

“FIA Forward firmly believes that governance must be the first pillar of true reform, and that starts with values. We must restore authentic democracy, where every member, large or small, has a voice. But we must also promote diversity of viewpoints as a structural priority. And rebuild a culture that welcomes questioning, where policies are developed collaboratively. Above all, we need total transparency, clear bilateral reporting, and honest assessments. The FIA ​​must serve its members, not the other way around.”, declares the American.

“There is much to do, but we believe we have the right team to accomplish this mission and to move the FIA ​​forward into a Federation that delivers real value, real partnerships and real leadership.”, concludes the former commissioner of the instance.
