With this car, everything is necessarily speed. So when you produce it, you might as well make the most of it! And Mercedes did not hold back and set the bar even higher for a production car on the Nürburgring.
Two years after setting a record time of 6'35"183 on the Green Hell, the manufacturer with the star has decided to try its luck again. This time with the aim of pushing the limits of its hypercar equipped with technology F1 from the manufacturer. So there is no question of playing for tenths, but for seconds, and lots of seconds!
The task was once again entrusted to Maro Engel, who was already at work in October 2022. With optimal conditions far from the few wet sections of the time, the factory driver set off to attack the 20,832 kilometres of tarmac with the beast in his hands. In his sights: the 6'30 mark. In the end, he made short work of it, completing his attempt in 6'29"090, an improvement of 6"93, making the Mercedes-AMG ONE the fastest production car on the Nordschleife.
To do this, meticulous preparation of the exercise was necessary. The Étoile engineers studied everything, even the time at which Maro Engel was to start on September 23rd to have the best track conditions. It was during his third lap launched at 18:56 p.m. and the thermometer displayed 15°C in the air and 20°C on the ground that the driver was able to set this new record.
« We have held the record for road vehicles for almost two years. But at AMG, we always want to push the boundaries of what is possible as far as possible, or even further., smiles Michael Scheibe, boss of Mercedes-AMG. That is why we have once again demonstrated what is possible with the unique AMG ONE. The entire team has been rewarded for its efforts and commitment. I am proud of this accomplished teamwork and this fantastic record. Once again, we have impressively demonstrated the spirit and expertise of AMG. »
