The 24 Hours of Le Mans are an opportunity for Ford to present a new version of its furious Mustang GTD. In the Village of the Le Mans circuit, the American manufacturer unveiled a very edgy “Pony Car”: the Ford Mustang GTD Carbon Series, in a very showy Chroma Flame livery.

As its name suggests, it is adorned with a Performance pack focused on weight savings through the use of carbon, particularly on the front, with fins and a splitter. Invisible from the outside, flaps under the bodywork are placed, as well as a drag reduction system (DRS) on the rear wing. Active aerodynamic elements reduce straight-line drag without sacrificing aerodynamic grip when cornering.
The Performance package also includes the Lightweight package, which removes some sound-deadening materials and adds 20-inch magnesium wheels. If the Performance pack is fitted to this Carbon Series model, it is available across the entire Mustang GTD range.
The objective of this preparation is to allow the Ford Mustang GTD Carbon Series to go under the 7-minute mark on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. The figures for this limited edition (the number of copies has not been communicated) are mind-blowing: the supercharged 8L V5.2 engine develops a power of 811 horsepower, coupled to an eight-speed gearbox.
“Many sports cars excel at one thing. But for a car to achieve a fast lap at the Nürburgring, it has to be excellent in all areas. Cornering, grip, braking, acceleration, there isn't a single area where it can't shine.", said Greg Goodall, Mustang GTD chief engineer.
