Max Esterson targets the big performance differences between F2 teams

In his first endurance race, Max Esterson, alongside Neel Jani and Tijmen van der Helm, managed to secure 12th place at Petit Le Mans, on the Road Atlanta circuit. This performance allowed him to highlight the differences with single-seaters.

At the beginning of September, Max Esterson was there, in the paddock of Formula 2, on the legendary Monza circuit. Competing in the eleventh round of the season with Trident alongside Frenchman Sami Meguetounif, the American driver certainly did not yet know that this was his last engagement in the category this year. Replaced, the owners of the team currently last in the F2 standings have taken different paths, between tests in Indy NXT and various attempts, it is indeed towards theEndurance that the former simracer headed.

Participating in the Petit race Le Mans, the former Trident driver notably participated in his team's comeback from 12th to 4th position during the first stints. Effective, and frankly surprising for a first experience in IMSAMax Esterson received several complimentary comments after the event. Congratulated by an internet user on X (formerly Twitter), the person concerned provided a response that at least clarified his situation at the end of the season. "Thank you. The disparity between cars and engines in F2 affects performance far more than most people realize (which is why I didn't want to participate anymore)."

Max Esterson raises sensitive issue in Formula 2

Unable to break away from the pack, except to break away from the last positions, Max Esterson had no luxury to show himself this year. The New York native, despite having had a rather unsuccessful career in car, seems to have a much more positive outlook in IMSA, judging by the results of this first race.

Taking advantage of the situation to explain that the engine and more generally the performance level of his single-seater at Trident prevented him from expressing his full potential, Max Esterson reminded observers that the promotion categories are also at the heart of a team championship that is much more disparate than it seems. Contrary to popular belief that each of the F2 and F3 drivers all have equal machines, it turns out that Invicta in Formula 2, or Trident, and Campos in Formula 3, have a significant advance in many areas, particularly technical ones.

Although there isn't much communication on the subject, Formula 2 engines do indeed vary from one team to another, allowing for power levels that are far from being equivalent. Visibly tired of this situation, Max Esterson could continue towards IMSA, while the future of Sami Meguetounif will also be closely monitored in the coming months.
