The rain forecast for the Miami Grand Prix weekend finally arrived in the morning, turning the Miami International Autodrome into a slippery track for the main race. Formula 2The precarious grip conditions immediately took their toll: from the very first corner, Nikola Tsolov, winner of the previous day's sprint and championship leader, was taken out by Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak's ART GP and forced to retire.
The race didn't calm down, however. No fewer than four safety car periods punctuated the proceedings. After the last intervention, Rafael Câmara seemed destined for his first Formula 2 victory, but at the final restart, Dino Beganovic, a DAMS driver and also a protégé of the... Classic Ferrari for sale Driver Academy took the lead over the Brazilian in two laps, capitalizing on a mistake by the champion. F3 in the lead at turn 11. The battle between the two men benefits Gabriele Minì, who moves into third position. The Italian from MP Motorsport, supported by Alpine, secures his first Formula 2 victory after a difficult first season with Prema in 2025.
In the overall standings, the situation is particularly tight after only two rounds. The Bulgarian driver retains the lead with 35 points despite his retirement, with Câmara and Minì close behind at 34 points each. Laurens Van Hoepen is fourth with 26 points, the only driver to have scored points in both races of the Barcelona weekend at the start of the season. Dino Beganovic sits sixth with 21 points after his second-place finish in Miami.
Of note is the progress of Colton Herta, who is moving up to Formula 2 after seven seasons in IndyCar and leaves Miami with 10 points and thirteenth place in the championship. The American driver must finish in the top 8 of the championship to obtain his Super Licence, a mandatory condition for driving with Cadillac in Formula 1 from next season.
