Victor Martins inherits the first pole position of the season in Formula 2 ! The Frenchman took back the pole position obtained by Gabriele Mini this Friday, but The Italian was penalized three places on the starting grid of the two races of the weekend, in Melbourne. The reason? The PREMA driver impeded Jak Crawford in the final moments of qualifying, at turn 4. A maneuver sanctioned by the stewards who decided to apply the same penalty for the Sprint Race and the Main Race. Thus, Gabriele Mini will start the Sprint Race from 13th place, and the Main Race from 4th place.

Victor Martins thus takes pole position and the two points awarded with it. The ART Grand Prix driver is joined by Richard Verschoor (MP Motorsport) on the front row in the Main Race while Alex Dunne (Rodin Motorsport) will start from 3rd place. As a reminder, six drivers received a ten-place grid penalty of the two races of the weekend: the DAMS, Rodin Motorsport and Trident teams were sanctioned for sporting and technical infractions during the pre-season tests organized at the end of February in Barcelona (Spain). Frenchman Sami Meguetounif, Trident driver, is therefore affected.
