A real surprise at the start of this season F2 Given Trident's results in 2025, Laurens Van Hoepen once again delivered a strong performance. With a time of 1:21.422, the Dutch driver outpaced Rafael Câmara, who had led for much of the session, by more than two-tenths of a second. The Brazilian, who was widely considered a frontrunner just a few weeks ago, still hasn't secured pole position in the category. The two drivers finished ahead of Irishman Alexander Dunne (Rodin) and Nikola Tsolov (Campos), the current championship leader.
In this instance, the session was primarily marked by accidents, in addition to the fact that all the fastest times were set in the final seconds. Oliver Goethe (MP Motorsport) was the first to lose control of his car during acceleration. Narrowly avoiding a crash, the driver nevertheless had his right rear wheel bent at the suspension level, preventing him from continuing.
The second driver experienced an even more dramatic accident. Caught off guard by the kerb, Tasapanapol Intrapuvasak (ART Grand Prix) completely lost control of his car, bringing out the red flag with five minutes remaining. The Thai driver destroyed part of his car, even though the race is scheduled for Saturday at 5:20 PM French time. While the mechanics might have time to work properly, it's uncertain whether the car will be perfectly set up for the event. Also of note is Colton Herta's 21st-place finish; he will once again need a strong comeback to make the most of this almost entirely local weekend, which coincides with the Indianapolis 500.
