OfEndurance , car, there is only one step. Clearly at the end of the 2025 season, many drivers are turning to the promotion categories even though they are not currently part of the classic circuit in this area. In this case, after Colton Herta – announced at Hitech TGR for the 2026 season of Formula 2, Nicolás Varrone has, in turn, been made official by Van Amersfoort Racing. The 24-year-old Argentinian, who will celebrate his 25th birthday on November 6, will join F2 within the Dutch team currently welcoming the Briton John Bennett and the Mexican Rafael Villagómez.

While he began his career in single-seaters, notably passing through Formula Renault 2.0 in Argentina since the 2016 season, Nicolás Varrone quickly turned to the Endurance categories in parallel. With success since the native of Ingeniero Maschwitz (Argentina) won the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice, in 2023 with Corvette in the GTE Am category, and in 2024 with AF Corse in LMP2 Pro/Am. This season, Nicolás Varrone is racing in the Hypercar category of the World Endurance Championship with the Porsche 963 Proton Competition customer. Varrone had already had the opportunity to test in Formula 2 during the 2024 post-season tests at Yas Marina with AIX Racing.

Formula 2 fills its ranks

“I am delighted to be joining Van Amersfoort Racing for the 2026 F2 season, he rejoices. It's a very professional team with a long history and success. I can't wait to get behind the wheel and start working with them. I thank everyone who has believed in me all these years."

For his part, the Team Principal of the VAR team naturally highlighted the career of his new driver, inclined to bring something new to the discipline. “We are delighted to welcome Nico to Van Amersfoort Racing for our 2026 Formula 2 season. His experience and success in endurance racing, including his Le Mans victory, speak for themselves. Stepping into Formula 2 will be a new challenge, but thanks to his talent and technical mastery, we are confident he will adapt quickly to this environment. We look forward to working with him and are confident his arrival will be a great added value for the team as we approach the season together.”

With Colton Herta already on next year's grid, Formula 2 seems to be opening up to new horizons. With a fierce desire to get into single-seater racing himself, champion Kalle Rovanperä WRC, is also aiming for the category from 2027 with the ambition of joining the Formula 1 one day. Although all of these profiles may not be among the chosen ones, the diversity of the career paths thus observed contrasts with the youth of the pilots from the Formula 3, whose path often appears very orderly.
