After what was undoubtedly a long wait, Rafael Villagómez can finally breathe a sigh of relief: Van Amersfoort Racing has renewed the Mexican's contract for a third season. The León (Mexico) native has also been playing for the Dutch team since 2021, when he made his debut in Formula 3In three seasons in F3 (2021 to 2023), he had scored only four points.
He did, however, join the F2 In 2024, still with VAR. In 2025, he climbed onto the third step of the podium for the first time in Barcelona during the Sprint race, which starts with a reverse grid for the top 10. He repeated this success in Losail (Qatar), also in a Sprint race. His 2025 campaign was thus marked by a fourteenth position in the Drivers' Championship, with 43 points.

While Villagómez's commitments in F2 have been more positive than in the junior category, his average results cast doubt on the prospect of truly outstanding performances this season. Finally, the Formula 2 grid is complete with this latest announcement, with the 2026 season beginning with testing scheduled from February 17th to 19th at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya before the official start on March 8th in Melbourne, Australia, alongside the first Grand Prix of the season.
