"Finally!" These were the liberating words uttered by Leonardo Fornaroli (Invicta) at the finish of this sprint race near Silverstone. Champion of Formula 3 Having never managed to win last year, the Italian driver has secured his first victory of the season, as well as his first success in nearly two and a half years of motor racing. Consistent until now, the driver has managed to get back on track, despite a difficult start for him.

Indeed, Kush Maini (DAMS), second on the grid, had the best start. Overtaken by a very clean, but above all very fast, Fornaroli, the Indian driver gave way, before seeing his pace collapse as the sprint progressed. Second at the finish, the American-Colombian Sebastian Montoya (Prema), on the other hand, would have happily taken the victory, as his final laps were so impressive. Sixth on the grid, the Prema driver has good reason to believe in a good scenario in the main race.

Martins' woes continue

Among the highlights of this first race of F2 This weekend, Victor Martins (ART GP) and Luke Browning (Hitech) were certainly the main drivers. Battling from start to finish, the two drivers supported by Williams were engaged in a fierce but clean duel, until contact occurred between the two men during the last lap. The Frenchman saw his front wing damaged, leading him to a very frustrating ninth place, the first without points. He was seventh before this unfortunate collision.

In the same vein, Alex Dunne (Rodin) also lost big today. The Irishman, aiming for the end-of-season title, was forced to retire after taking Gabriele Mini (Prema) outside the track limits in the duel between them. Victim of a puncture, the protégé of McLaren was the only one not to finish the race, while the Italian was penalized ten seconds in a very surprising context, leading him to finally finish 14th.

The main race will be available from 12:05 p.m. (French time) this Sunday before the start of hostilities in Formula 1.
