From September 19 to 21, the Formula 2 will be back for the penultimate round of the season in Baku, Azerbaijan. While a two-month break awaits the drivers after this round, some changes are already being announced. Within the Trident team, which is in great difficulty in F2, the driver duo will change completely. Sami Meguetounif and Max Esterson have in fact mutually agreed to end their adventure with the Italian team, conceding in some ways the impasse in which it found itself at this point of the year.

While three rounds remain to be contested, two drivers from Formula 3 – whose season ended at Monza after Rafael Câmara's title – will thus replenish the ranks of the Trident team. In this case, the Dutchman Laurens Van Hoepen, entered with ART GP this year, as well as the Norwegian Martinius Stenshorne, Hitech driver, have been chosen to make the jump to Formula 2 ahead of the next season.

Trident focuses on new profiles

Trident's results from Formula 3 to Formula 2 are radically different. Welcoming Rafael Câmara, this season's F3 champion, as well as Leonardo Fornaroli and Gabriel Bortoleto, the two previous champions in previous seasons, the Italian team is suffering from a lack of performance in F2. As such, the Brazilian champion was clearly not retained, as he undoubtedly harbors more ambitious hopes at the higher level.

In terms of profiles, Laurens Van Hoepen has just finished his Formula 3 season in 12th place in the general classification, with 60 points, including a fine fourth place in Barcelona. Martinius Stenshorne, meanwhile, is being monitored by the academy. McLaren, finished fifth with 89 points. Winner of the main race in Spielberg, Austria, after Nikola Tsolov's disqualification, the Norwegian had a convincing second season in the category.

Please note that this decision applies only to the Baku event. No information has yet been released regarding the rest of the season, including the final two rounds in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
