While Rovanperä announced his retirement from WRC to pursue his dreams of car, the Finn put his money where his mouth is on Tuesday, grinding down the asphalt of the Jerez track at the wheel of a F2 of the previous generation, prepared by Hitech TGR. For the occasion, the car was dressed in a special livery, in the colors of the Toyota Gazoo Racing, partner of the Hitech team. Rovanperä is out of the question to prepare for a 2026 season in the antechamber of the Formula 1, the youngest world champion in the history of the WRC, is expected to head to Japan next year to participate in the highly competitive Super Formula championship.
With the possibility of a switch to F2 in 2027, and the presence next year of Colton Herta scheduled for F1 in the ranks of the Hitech team, Kalle Rovanperä may simply be getting ahead of his preparations! The Finn, who has already driven a Formula 1 car thanks to his sponsor Red Bull during a promotional day, enjoyed his first opportunity to drive "for real" in one of the fastest single-seaters in the world.
"I'm very satisfied with these test days. We were able to accumulate valuable driving time and finally get a real feel for the car!" explained the Finnish driver on his social networks. While single-seater racing will become his daily life from next year, for the moment it remains only a parenthesis. Indeed, Kalle Rovanperä is preparing to participate in the Rally Japan, from November 6 to 9. Still in contention for the world title, he hopes to end his WRC adventure on a high note, with the Saudi Arabia Rally three weeks later, which will close the 2025 World Rally Championship season.
