Hitech boasts an impressive track record in its driver pairing. The team, formerly owned by Oliver Oakes, will be the home of Colton Herta, whose arrival in Formula 2 will be one of the major attractions of the 2026 grid. The American, second inIndyCar in 2024, will team up with the 2023 Super Formula champion, Ritomo Miyata.
The Japanese driver is coming off two disappointing seasons with ART GP, where he bore the brunt of the French team's poor performance, which missed the transition to the current cars at the start of 2024. In two years, Miyata failed to live up to the promise shown by his back-to-back Super Formula and Super GT titles in 2023. His performances are, however, somewhat excused: his teammate Victor Martins, despite being a champion of F3 2022 and best rookie 2023, never got this car to work. By joining Hitech, one of the teams that has best managed the transition to the new regulations, Ritomo Miyata must now show his potential alongside Colton Herta.
“I am delighted to be joining Hitech for the 2026 Formula 2 Championship season. My first seasons in F2 were invaluable for my development, allowing me to gain experience with the cars, tires and circuits, and to hone my racing technique against some of the most talented young drivers in the world.”

“Hitech has proven itself to be one of the most competitive and professional teams in Formula 2, and I am convinced that this is the ideal environment to continue progressing, fighting at the front, and achieving consistent results every weekend. I am also grateful to Mr. Morizo,” Toyota Gazoo Racing and everyone who has supported me on this journey. My goal is to continue progressing, achieving podium finishes and good results in races, and always aiming higher in this sport.
Clive Hatton, director of the Hitech team, also added: “We are delighted to welcome Ritomo to the team for 2026. He has already proven his quality in Formula 2 and his experience as a Japanese champion brings added depth to our promising new driver lineup.”
“With the arrival of Colton Herta from IndyCar and the continued development of Ritomo after two excellent F2 seasons, this duo combines experience, adaptability, and great potential. Hitech has had two very competitive seasons in Formula 2, and we are determined to continue this momentum in 2026. With Ritomo and Colton, we believe we have one of the most promising and competitive driver pairings on the grid.” But both bets will still have to pay off!
