With just a handful of seconds left to make a final attempt, no driver was able to surpass Rafael Câmara's fastest time of 1:28, set just moments earlier. Behind him, Nikola Tsolov seemed to confirm his status as the challenger. Second in this session, the Campos driver, winner in Monaco, was only two tenths behind, and placed himself in an almost excellent position to finally take on his Brazilian rival directly.
Among the pleasing results, Théophile Naël (VAR) managed to set a personal best time at the best of times. Fourth under the checkered flag, the Frenchman once again allows himself the right to dream ahead of Sunday. Already third in Melbourne, the Frenchman is closely followed by Alessandro Giusti (MP Motorsport), sixth. The two French drivers thus encircle Santiago Ramos (VAR), fifth, and winner of the main race at Imola.
Less successful than his teammate, Charlie Wurz, who was in good form this Friday morning, finished 19th, more than seven tenths behind the leader of the Trident team. The Austrian, sliding in the last corner, almost completely lost control of his car before the halfway point of the session. Rafael Câmara also appeared close to making a mistake shortly before, but was much more consistent than during the last two weekends at Imola and Monaco to take pole position again, his fourth in five meetings.
This Saturday, the sprint race will be available to watch from 10:05 a.m. (French time). It will result in a grid reversal for the top 12 drivers, moving Roman Bilinski (Rodin) to pole position for the least lucrative event of the weekend. The grid order will be reestablished Sunday morning for the main race, scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
