The weekends follow one another and are the same for Dorian Pin in FRECA. Two circuits, four races, but still no points for the driver in this championship. "It wasn't the weekend we were hoping for, but we'll take the positives and keep working.", she judged soberly on social networks at the end of the third round of the championship, in Zandvoort.
The Frenchwoman was not helped by a damaged front wing on restart in Race 2, but she had previously struggled to shine, particularly in qualifying. Respectively 20th and 24th in the two races of the weekend, she was unable to break away from the back of the grid at Zandvoort. Although the FRECA category is a high-level, and tight this year, she will undoubtedly have to show more to move up to the next level.
2025 is the year Pin wants to win and focus on his rise in car. Putting her endurance career on hold and ceasing to scatter herself across different races, she set herself a double objective: to win the F1 Academy and perform in FRECA.
Doriane Pin, a nugget with a remarkable rise
Runner-up to Britain's Abbi Pulling in F1 Academy last year, Doriane Pin has a new rival in 2025, the Dutchwoman Maya Weug. These two are five months apart and know each other well, having faced each other in the final of the "FIA Girls on Track" program in 2020. It was ultimately Maya Weug who landed a place in the Ferrari Driver Academy, which she continues to represent in F1 Academy.
This program allowed Pin to be spotted by the Iron Dames, an all-female team, and to truly launch her career. Victorious at the 100 Hours of Spa in 24 and then appearing on the LM P2022 podium of the 1000 Miles of Sebring In 2023, for her first race in the category, the Frenchwoman established herself as a gem of her generation.
But Doriane Pin dreams of single-seater racing. In 2024, she's making the big leap to the F1 Academy and FRECA. She's supported by Mercedes, even though she continues to participate in other races with the Iron Dames. 2nd at the end of the F1 Academy season, she struggles to establish herself in FRECA, where she does not score a single point. Not helped by a rib injury in the middle of the season, she decides to return to both championships, focusing exclusively on single-seaters.
F1 Academy vs FRECA, which results will affect his career?
In 2025, Doriane Pin took advantage of the F1 Academy to once again showcase her speed. With a main race victory in Shanghai and another in the Sprint in Miami, she sits just one point behind championship leader Maya Weug. Her next race: next weekend in Montreal.
But with his results in FRECA in decline, it's difficult to know if the F1 Academy will allow him to progress sufficiently, both as a driver and in terms of results to show for the rest of his career. F3, for example, will they see the pilot who monopolizes the podiums during Formula 1 weekends or the one who struggles to make her place among the young wolves?
The F1 Academy is intended to be a transitional category, promoting talented young drivers and also opening the doors to mixed categories. However, Doriane Pin is already pursuing both programs in parallel. A choice that could be detrimental to her? A choice she made at the start of the season, in any case. “Winning the F1 Academy championship. That’s my only goal this year.”
