Portimão – Race 1: Egozi wins, Pérard scores points
© Eurocup-3To open the proceedings on the Portimão circuit in Portugal, American James Egozi managed to follow up after his superb first weekend at Paul Ricard.
Fourth race, and already James Egozi's second victory this year! The Palou Motorsport driver remained composed from the front of the Eurocup-3 field, maintaining his position after a very good start. With the pole-sitter stalling on the grid, the driver who started third overtook René Lammers (MP Motorsport) and then pulled away to the lead. Despite the Safety Car periods, the American managed his restarts perfectly to further solidify his championship lead.
Finishing ahead of René Lammers and Lebanese driver Christopher El Feghali (already the winner of the Sprint at Le Castellet), the winner saw Frenchman Rafaël Pérard finish in 6th position, having at one point held 4th place. Taking advantage of incidents around him, Pérard avoided the accidents, with a total of four cars failing to finish. Among the favorites in the category, Alex Powell suffered a particularly nasty crash on the pit straight, retiring among the first in the race. He will be eager to redeem himself this Sunday at 12:45 (French time) in Race 2.
