Relieved, Dorian Pin appeared with a measured smile after the first of the two races F1 Academy this Saturday. As the rain intensified in Las Vegas at the start of the F1 qualifying session, the Frenchwoman was coming off a podium finish where she had occupied the top step. Fifth on the grid, fourth at the start (Emma Felbermayr stalled at the start), the protégé of the driver academy Mercedes Benz then took advantage of his opponents' misfortunes.
Indeed, Maya Weug made a rather glaring error during the first lap under the safety car. While trying to make her tire changes, weaving from left to right behind Tina Hausmann, the Dutchwoman violently collided with the rear of the car of her predecessor adorned in green. Causing the immediate retirement of the two drivers involved, this incident allowed Doriane Pin to start this first race in second position behind Nina Gademan.
Lucky in this respect, the Frenchwoman then emerged from a clean race, without error, and fueled by a single decisive overtake on the leader. "Very happy to bring home this victory after this crazy race," she confessed to Canal+ microphones"From start to finish, it was very complicated. We had to stay on track, we had to be opportunistic, we also had to be aggressive but not get caught out! The track was wet from the first to the last lap with lots of white lines (to be avoided - Ed.), lots of tricky corners. I think we managed it wonderfully and we were aggressive to take the lead before the last safety car. That's where we made the difference! When it's this complicated, we're there. I'm very happy."
Doriane Pin in a very favorable position
Now enjoying a 20-point lead over Maya Weug at this stage of the weekend, Doriane Pin sees the situation becoming clearer. Having arrived in Las Vegas at the beginning of the week with only a nine-point lead over the driver supported by Classic Ferrari for saleThis new lead allows it to put pressure on its rival without pushing the level of risk to its maximum.

In practical terms, Maya Weug now has to win Race 2, which takes place this Sunday at 1:15 AM (French time). Without this victory, and even with a second-place finish combined with the fastest lap, the Dutch driver would only score 19 points, and would fall one point short of Doriane Pin, even if Pin were to retire.
If, despite everything, Maya Weug were to win, Doriane Pin would then need to finish seventh or better to secure the title. With the Frenchwoman starting from fourth position and her rival starting fifth in Race 2, caution might be advised for "Pocket Rocket." In any scenario other than a Maya Weug victory, the title would definitively go to the Prema driver. The advantage is therefore currently quite significant for the Parisian!
