Netherlands – Race 2: Maya Weug wins, Doriane Pin on the podium

After setting pole position on Saturday morning, Maya Weug capped off her near-perfect weekend by winning Race 2 at Zandvoort. Doriane Pin claimed third place.

A true solo performer, Maya Weug (MP Motorsport) was never troubled during this final race of the weekend, on her home turf, at Zandvoort. Before this afternoon's Dutch GP, the local driver managed to win her second race of the season in F1 Academy after the one already acquired in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Behind her, Alisha Palmowski (Campos) and Dorian Pin (Prema) completed the podium, aided by the penalty received by Ella Lloyd (Rodin). The British driver suffered the consequences of a false start as the lights went out.

Second when she crossed the finish line, and fourth after her penalty was applied, Ella Lloyd wasn't the only one to suffer the pangs of a pre-start error. Lia Block (ART GP), sixth on the grid, and normally starting her race just ahead of Doriane Pin, unfortunately fell back just as the start procedure was underway. This costly error caused her to slip to 12th place. Meanwhile, Chloe Chambers (Campos), fourth after qualifying, stalled before the start of the grid lap. The American was logically forced to retire, even though she was in second place in the general classification, not far behind Doriane Pin before this new race weekend.

Doriane Pin remains leader of the F1 Academy

By collecting 25 points for the victory this Sunday at Zandvoort, Maya Weug ensures a strong comeback in the title race. Overtaking the unfortunate Chloe Chambers, the Dutchwoman nevertheless sees Doriane Pin maintain a slight lead. Consistent, the Frenchwoman supported by Mercedes Benz can congratulate itself on having saved the day by scoring valuable points in each race during a weekend that was nevertheless more difficult than the previous ones. Better still, with 127 points against 107, the Frenchwoman maintains exactly the same lead as before the start of hostilities in the Netherlands. The next meeting of the season is on October 3, 4, and 5, in Singapore.
