One week after winning the overall classification at the 24 Hours of Daytona, Porsche Porsche continued its impressive run with its official programs at the Miami E-Prix. The German marque secured pole position thanks to Nico Müller, who beat Felipe Drugovich's Andretti, also powered by a Porsche engine. In a race marked by changing conditions, with a downpour occurring before the start at the Miami International Autodrome, Porsche managed to choose the right setup for its two factory cars, with Nico Müller leading the majority of the laps and Pascal Wehrlein climbing from eleventh on the grid.
"In difficult conditions, the whole team managed the race very well, making the right decisions."Florian Modlinger, the factory team director, noted. “Pascal wasn’t happy with the car during practice, but he turned things around with a strong pace and climbed from 11th place. We finally got the big points gain we were hoping for in São Paulo and Mexico City, but hadn’t managed to achieve. This is our first double podium of the season, and the 36 points put us top of both the teams’ and constructors’ championships. It’s a good foundation to build on. Thanks to everyone on the team who made this possible, and to everyone who stayed in Weissach. We’ve had good performances at three circuits, and we’ll work hard to continue this momentum next time in Jeddah.”
Indeed, Porsche's factory team has taken the lead in the teams' championship, while the manufacturer dominates the engine manufacturers' championship, thanks in particular to Jake Dennis's Andretti victory in the first round of the season in Brazil. Former world champion Pascal Wehrlein was pleased to have been able to turn things around after particularly difficult practice and qualifying sessions on a dry track.
“A very good race, as I started in 11th position and finished on the podium. The car was very fast during the race. Unfortunately, we encountered some problems before the race, which slightly compromised our weekend. But despite that, the race was very solid. A double podium, a lot of points for the team, and we're accumulating those points, which is important at the start of the season. I'm already looking forward to the next race in Jeddah.”
Although his first victory has yet to come in Miami, Nico Müller was satisfied with his second podium finish in the 100% electric category: "It's fantastic to have secured my first pole position in Formula E And my second podium, but my first with Porsche – it's really special! A double podium for the team, which makes this a fantastic day for us. I'm very happy for everyone and grateful for their trust. I had a lot of fun today. On a dry or wet track, the car performed very well and we were able to score some very important points. You always want to win, but Mitch Evans was just a little bit stronger today. Congratulations to him, and we'll try to make it harder for him next time. It only makes me even more ambitious.
