La Formula E will have a new face next season and not necessarily the one we expected the most. Envision has announced the arrival of Swede Joel Eriksson alongside Sébastien Buemi for season 12. The Swiss, who won a victory in the streets of Monaco and two podiums in Jakarta and London in 2025, had his contract extended for several years on August 28.
His new teammate, Joel Eriksson, has a less impressive CV than that of the four-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans : the native of Tomelilla made his mark in promotional formulas, notably German F4 or F3 European, where he finished second in 2017 behind a certain Lando Norris.
Passed in GT, in DTM or at the Macau Grand Prix (2nd in 2019), Joel Eriksson also had his first stint in Formula E in 2018 with Envision, already, by participating in the Marrakech Rookie Test. Convincing, he was then aligned on 8 rounds during season 7 (2020-2021) with Dragon/Penske (1 pt).
Eriksson returns to Envision
“I’m delighted to have signed with Envision Racing, it’s a huge moment in my career and one I’ve been working towards for some time,” said Eriksson, whose last Formula E appearance was a stint in 2024 in Berlin with Envision. “I am very grateful to the team for their trust and I am looking forward to starting my first full Formula E season.”
“We are delighted to announce Joel as our new driver. We have known him for several years, since his very first Formula E test with us and his participation in Berlin last season.” says Sylvain Filippi, CEO and CTO of Envision. “On both occasions, he proved to us just how talented he is and adapted very quickly to the Formula E racing style in Berlin, scoring points from the very beginning. With Joel's extensive knowledge and experience on the simulator at Jaguar, we are confident he will deliver for us and we will do everything we can to help him hit the ground running.”
Joel Eriksson and Sébastien Buemi will therefore defend Envision's chances from the first round of the season, scheduled for December 6 in São Paulo.
