This is a great way to recover after the terrible disappointment of the day before! Beaten by Maximilian Günther (DS Penske) in the last chicane of the last lap, Oliver Rowland (Nissan) did not let his chance pass him by during the second Jeddah E-Prix this Saturday evening.
Second on the grid, the Englishman, who took the lead in the championship on Friday, showed all his experience against the passion of the young poleman Taylor Barnard (McLaren). Although he was discreet at the start of the race, Oliver Rowland gradually gained momentum, thanks in particular to a good strategy with attack mode.
Intelligently, the Nissan driver positioned himself in the wake of his rivals to take the lead in the final third and this time not let go until the checkered flag, signing his second victory of the season after the one in Mexico last January. In a very lively end to the race, Jake Hughes (Maserati) took the third step of the podium after a battle with several in which Jean-Éric Vergne (DS Penske) lost big, falling back to 7th place overall.
In the championship, Oliver Rowland achieved the perfect operation since his runner-up António Félix da Costa (Porsche) retired in the early stages. Hit on the first lap by Maximilian Günther, the Portuguese driver went through the pits for the first time before finally throwing in the towel. This allows the Englishman to take the lead with 68 points, 17 more than his new runner-up, Taylor Barnard.
The next round is scheduled in Miami on April 12.
