As he moved closer to securing his first pole position in the third generation of Formula E, Nyck de Vries was beaten in the semi-final by Nico Müller. The German driver won by a mere tenth of a second. Felipe Drugovich ensured that Formula E would have another pole sitter by winning the second semi-final against António Félix da Costa.

In the first quarter-final, Nyck de Vries (Mahindra) overtook Nick Cassidy's Citroën. The New Zealander was faster towards the end of the lap, but a mistake entering the first corner condemned him to finish a tenth of a second behind the Dutchman. Nico Müller (Porsche) eliminated Norman Nato (Nissan). The Frenchman's run ended in the quarter-finals after an error in the final corner, where he entered too fast and ran wide.

group A

Reigning world champion Oliver Rowland (Nissan) failed to qualify for the head-to-head round, finishing the session in sixth place. His teammate Norman Nato topped the timesheets, eight hundredths of a second ahead of Nick Cassidy's Citroën, and one tenth ahead of Nyck de Vries' Mahindra and Nico Müller's Porsche. Another title contender, Mitch Evans, also failed to break into the top four, as did Pepe Martí. Sébastien Buemi, Edoardo Mortara and Lucas di Grassi.

The two Swiss drivers made contact during the session, and the incident was under investigation by the stewards. Mortara felt that Buemi had ruined his chances by causing damage to the front of his car. The stewards agreed with him, handing Sébastien Buemi a three-place grid penalty.

group B

While Citroën could celebrate Nick Cassidy's qualification for the head-to-head battles, things were much more complicated for Jean-Éric Vergne, second-to-last in Group B, who will therefore have to start from the back of the grid. Taylor Barnard, driving the DS Penske that Vergne piloted last year, set the fastest time ahead of António Félix da Costa's Jaguar, Joel Eriksson's Envision, and Felipe Drugovich's Andretti. The Brazilian thus qualifies for the head-to-head battles on his team's home track.

Günther, Wehrlein, Maloney, Dennis, Vergne and Ticktum were eliminated in this Group B.

Formula E now on the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit? Only part of it, judging by the lap times between the coffee grinders and the F1 cars, right?
