They started with 22, but in the end only two remained! Dan Ticktum and Nyck de Vries managed to get out of their respective groups during the Monaco E-Prix 1 Qualifying, then passed the quarter-finals and semi-finals until they found themselves facing each other to compete for the first pole position of the Monaco weekend.

And it was Cupra's Briton Kiro who was fastest, securing a surprise second pole position ahead of the Dutchman from Mahindra. Very aggressive throughout the session, Dan Ticktum touched the wall several times, notably during his semi-final against Max Günther (DS Penske). "I don't know how I managed to get through, I almost crashed at least eight times!" he wondered aloud on the radio before the final against de Vries. Despite another collision with the wall at the Casino exit, Ticktum went on to secure a second pole position in Formula E and the most prestigious of his career.

The French miss out on the quarterfinals

Behind them, Max Günther and Mitch Evans (Jaguar) complete the second row after losing their respective semi-finals. Following them are the quarter-finalists: Antonio Félix da Costa (Jaguar), Joël Eriksson (Envision), and the drivers Porsche Nico Müller, winner of his first race in Berlin, and the 2023-2024 champion Pascal Wehrlein. The German, current championship leader, lost out to eventual pole-sitter Dan Ticktum despite having dominated Group A in qualifying.

Fifth in this group and the first driver not to qualify for the final standings, Jean-Éric Vergne (Citroën) will start 9th. His teammate Nick Cassidy did not shine and only managed 17th place. A slight disappointment as well for the experienced driver. Sébastien Buemi (Envision), only 15th, and guilty of hindering Max Günther during the group stage. For the Swiss contingent on the grid, it was a morning to forget: Edoardo Mortara, suffering a technical problem with his Mahindra, was unable to participate in the session, as was Zane Maloney (Lola Yamaha), whose car could not be repaired in time following its accident during testing.

Among the underperformers, defending champion Oliver Rowland (Nissan) could only manage 12th place, just ahead of fellow champion Jake Dennis (Andretti), who will hold the title in 2022-2023, and Frenchman Norman Nato (Nissan), who finished 14th. The race will be broadcast live from 15 p.m.
