While the season of Formula 1 ends this weekend in Abu Dhabi, that of Formula E begins this Saturday in São Paulo.
Reigning champion Oliver Rowland was eliminated in the first qualifying session. This was bad news for the Nissan driver, who had already been penalized three grid positions for the first E-Prix of the season for causing a collision in the final round of Season 11. Nico Müller (Porsche) was also eliminated early. In his first Formula E appearance, Felipe Drugovich (Andretti) caused a red flag after hitting the wall. It was a difficult Saturday for the locals, as Lucas di Grassi (Lola Yamaha) encountered a mechanical problem.

Facing Edoardo Mortara (Mahindra) in the quarter-finals, Jean-Éric Vergne (Citroën) was eliminated by the Swiss driver. In his first appearance with Jaguar, António Félix da Costa was eliminated at the same stage as the Frenchman by Jake Dennis (Andretti), while Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche) defeated Nyck de Vries (Mahindra). Another Frenchman involved, Norman Nato (Nissan), was taken out by Dan Ticktum (Cupra Kiro).
Wehrlein set the fastest time but was penalized before the final
The first semi-final pitted Edoardo Mortara against Jake Dennis, a duel that went in Dennis's favor. The second race, between Ticktum and Wehrlein, was won by the 2024 champion. Although he qualified for the final, the German driver received a three-place grid penalty for overheating his tires during a spin in the pit lane. Pole position was therefore automatically awarded to Jake Dennis, even though the German driver had won qualifying for the third consecutive year in São Paulo.
Join us at 18:00 PM (Paris time) this Saturday for the start of the first race of season 12 of Formula E.
