Shanghai – Race 2: Nick Cassidy wins a rain-disrupted race

There was a great opportunity to be seized this Sunday in Shanghai with the start outside the top 10 of the first two in the championship, Oliver Rowland (Nissan) and Taylor Barnard (McLaren). This benefited polesitter Nick Cassidy (Jaguar), who took off from the start of a race held on a wet circuit. It took seven laps for the wild beasts to be unleashed after a long procession behind the safety car.

The third in the last championship was never reached by the Porsche Da Costa and Wehrlein, who were starting behind him. Nick Cassidy took his first victory of the season, while his best result until then was a 3rd place in the streets of Monaco.

From the first use of attack mode, the German took the lead over his teammate and was never caught. Both Porsche drivers climbed onto the podium and moved back behind Oliver Rowland in the overall standings. The Briton (13th) scored no points, while his former runner-up, Taylor Barnard (McLaren), took 10th place and dropped to 4th overall. Rowland leaves China with a 68-point lead over Wehrlein and 73 over Da Costa.

Winner of the first race of the weekend on Saturday, Maximilian Günther (DS Penske) was forced to retire, while his teammate Jean-Éric Vergne, 2nd on Saturday, finished 5th. The tricky conditions disrupted the drivers, and several made more or less serious errors, notably Jake Dennis, Nyck de Vries or even David Beckmann.

The 12th of the 16 rounds of the season will be contested on June 21 in Jakarta (Indonesia).
