Citroën red was associated with the white and blue of the Tricolore flag on the Champs-Élysées, when the new car at the Chevrons officially presented itself. All this under the eyes of Jean-Éric Vergne and Nick Cassidy, its drivers, as well as Xavier Chardon, the brand's new CEO.

« We arrive with the same determination to learn, progress and perform that has allowed Citroën to win each time it has entered a new championship, as in Rally-Raid, in WRC or in the WTCC,” he explained. “Motor racing is a field that has shaped the history and legend of Citroën for over 60 years. It makes the heart of automotive passion beat. By joining a 100% electric, responsible and committed competition, we share strong and forward-looking values.”

Citroën takes over from Maserati in Formula E, the Italian brand from Stellantis having joined the championship in Season 9. If the trident brand was associated with the Monegasque team Monaco Sport Group, the operations of Citroën Formula E will gradually be brought back to the premises of Stellantis Motorsport, in Satory, in the Paris region.

While Citroën will be participating in a single-seater world championship for the very first time, the French brand is not entirely new to this type of discipline, having developed the Citroën MEP in the 1960s. Based on components from the Ami 6 and the GS, it aimed to give young drivers and mechanics the opportunity to learn their trade before moving on to higher levels of competition.

A rich history followed for the French brand in competition, particularly in rallying, with the nine consecutive world titles won by Sébastien Loeb, driving Xsara, C4 and DS3 WRC. Two-time Formula E champion Jean-Éric Vergne is eager to contribute to this story.

« I am very happy to join Citroën in Formula E, a French brand as iconic as it is historic. It is a real honor for me to be the French driver of this new team. My goal is to bring all my Formula E experience to help Citroën succeed in its first season. This new project is a great source of motivation. I have total confidence in the team and I am convinced that we will be able to target podiums and victories from next year. In the longer term, our ambition is clear: to make the Citroën Racing Formula E Team one of the most successful teams in the new generation of the discipline.

First elements of response in Valencia, from October 27, with the winter tests of Season 12.

Citroën's return to single-seaters... after the distant MEP X2 and X27 of the late sixties and seventies with their rather atypical engine sound! After the dinosaur juice of the twin-cylinder engine of the Panhard 24CT of the X2 replaced by the flat-four of the future GS, it's time for batteries and the 100% electric coffee grinder!
