Nico Pino is climbing the ranks. The young 19-year-old Chilean first trained in Formula 4 SEA then British (2019 and 2020) before quickly taking the path of long distance races with Inter Europol Competition. With the Polish team, he had the opportunity to play in Asian Le Mans Series then in the European Le Mans Series, of which he was LM P3 vice-champion in 2022.

Following the pyramidEndurance, Pino discovered the 24 Hours of Le Mans last year with a podium result, won in the LM P2 category with Duqueine alongside René Binder and Neel Jani. This season, the native of Santiago (Chile) is the starter WEC with United Autosports in the GT3 category and he will compete in the Le Mans classic for the second time on June 15 and 16.

The profile of the young man did not leave Stellantis Motorsport indifferent since he was selected to be the first element of the brand's new “Young Drivers” program.

« We have a policy of supporting young pilots in order to give them a chance. South America is an interesting territory for Stellantis and for the brand Peugeot , among others », Explained Jean-Marc Finot, director of motorsport at Stellantis, on this subject.

Nico Pino has already had the opportunity to represent a brand of the group during the Rookie Test of the Formula E in Berlin on May 13, where he wore the colors of Maserati (20th out of 22). A first opportunity which should appeal to others, but not only on the circuit: “ We had Malthe (Jakobsen), we now have the opportunity to have Nico who is quite eclectic. He has an appetite for car Formula E, he is an Endurance driver and he also likes rally ! We will therefore look to offer him opportunities on C3 Rally2s. »

With the experience he has gained in Endurance, Nico Pino could also be led to test the 9X8. “ For the moment, he has driven a little in FE, replied Jean-Marc Finot. We will see depending on the circumstances and opportunities for him to take the wheel of our rally, customer competition and WEC cars. »

Nothing has been confirmed, but it would not be surprising to find the Chilean behind the wheel of the French Hypercar during the Rookie Test in Bahrain at the end of the season.

The successor to Eliseo SALAZAR, the only Chilean driver to have competed in F1 Grand Prix (boxed by Nelson PIQUET at Hockenheim 1982, I was there!), the Indy 500, the 24 Hours of Le Mans on a Jaguar Silk Cut, the Paris Dakar and even in Argentina 2012 in the World Rally Championship!
