The British team Lola Cars is known for having already participated in 24 Hours of Le Mans, but also for his short stint as a team of Formula 1, in 1997. Although its activities ceased in 2012, after a judicial liquidation, the legendary British team has since been bought by Till Bechtolsheimer, former racing driver. The latter confided his desire in 2022 to bring the brand back to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but this return to competition will first take place in Formula E from the end of 2024, in alliance with the manufacturer Yamaha.

After having ensured its presence in the electric championship until 2030, Lola successfully completed the first tests of its GEN3 Evo-era Formula E, alongside its Japanese technical partner. Started on June 19, testing of the car went well and allowed the team to gain a better understanding of the car. A first run carried out under the eyes of Johnny Herbert, former Formula 1 driver.

Mark Preston, Senior Director of Lola Cars, was delighted with this first shakedown: “It was a special moment to see Lola back on the track. The first shakedown is an important milestone in our Formula E journey with Yamaha, allowing engineers from both companies to gather valuable data to continue the development of our powertrain. It was a very positive day for the team and we look forward to competing in the championship later in the year. »

The team should return to the track for the first race of the season in December, in São Paulo (December 7) for at least 5 years. Besides Lola, three other manufacturers – Nissan, Porsche and Jaguar – have also committed to Formula E until 2030. The future Lola drivers are not yet known, but the British team will partner with the ABT structure from next season.
