World champion during Season 8, which he then competed with Mercedes, Stoffel Vandoorne therefore remains within the Stellantis fold, following his departure from DS Penske, where he spent the last two years alongside Jean-Éric Vergne. The Belgian driver will therefore wear the colors of a new team that he knows relatively well, DS Penske and Maserati sharing the same powertrain. A situation he already knew when the team was called Venturi, and it used the same Mercedes powertrain as the factory team.
« I am very happy to join Maserati MSG Racing next season and I am proud to be associated with such an iconic name in motorsport as Maserati. I can't wait to start working with the team – although I haven't worked directly with them before, I am familiar with the environment, both from my time at DS Penske, but also from my time at Mercedes when we shared a powertrain. It's a great team, very competent, very determined, and I really look forward to working with them in the future. I hope we will have a lot of success and fight together for victories and championships. »
Returning “home” for Hughes
The one who also defends the colors of Peugeot en WEC andAston Martin en Formula 1 will therefore team up with Jake Hughes, whose departure from McLaren was announced this morning. The Briton has already had the opportunity to work within the team, since he was their reserve driver in Season 7. Two years later, he made his debut as a starter in Formula E at McLaren, where he notably took pole position four times.
« I am delighted to join Maserati MSG Racing. The success the team has enjoyed, as one of the founding teams of Formula E, speaks for itself. On a personal note, I've worked with the team before, so I know them well and I'm really looking forward to going back. I know the season has only just ended, but I honestly can't wait to get to Monaco HQ and start working with the engineers, ride in the simulator and get started on preparing for Season 11 . This is the start of an exciting new chapter in my career, and I know the best is yet to come. »
Maximilian Günther and Jehan Daruvala, who drove this season for Maserati, are therefore thanked. If the Indian's future in Formula E is rather murky for the moment, the German is announced as leaving for DS Penske... in place of Stoffel Vandoorne! In short, an exchange of good practices…
