Still searching for his first world championship title Formula EMitch Evans launched his season this Saturday in Miami by winning an E-Prix that started on a wet track. Starting from ninth on the grid, the Jaguar driver spent the first part of the race catching up to the leading group, before perfectly utilizing his two Attack Modes to take the lead and then pull away, winning by nearly four seconds. Porsche of Nico Müller, the poleman.
"It's an incredible feeling to have achieved this record-breaking victory here in Miami.", explains Evans. "Having achieved the most wins in Formula E is a special feeling, and coming from behind to take the victory makes it even sweeter."
While the rest of the weekend unfolded on a completely dry track, rain reshuffled the deck just minutes before the race. While other teams, such as DS Penske, struggled to find the right setup for the particularly greasy conditions, Jaguar managed to do so, as evidenced by António Félix da Costa's excellent race. The Portuguese driver finished only eighth after being hit by Felipe Drugovich's Andretti, but he was in contention for a podium finish throughout the entire event.
"Under these conditions, the race clearly went our way and I was able to maintain the pace throughout."added Mitch Evans. "I hope this victory marks the start of our season, and our goal is to maintain this good form during the double-header in Jeddah."
In just two weeks, Formula E heads to Saudi Arabia, with two races at the Jeddah circuit, which notably hosts the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Formula 1 since 2021.
