Usually organized during the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the "Racing for Charity" operation is shifting this year to the WECdue to the lack of an official commitment from the German manufacturer to the Sarthe race next June. The two Porsche The official 99X Electric cars, driven by Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller, will thus earn €400 for each lap completed in races during the next season. Formula E.
Three charities will benefit from Porsche's donations: Kinderherzen retten eV, Interplast Germany eV, and the Ferry Porsche Foundation. Since the initiative began, more than €2,4 million has been raised during the 24 Hours of Le Mans by the official Porsche 963s.
Earlier this year, by completing 1,159 laps of the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit, the official Porsche 963s raised €600,000 for the various charities they support. By extending the charitable effort from one race to an entire season, Porsche is, in a way, confirming the adage that the 24 Hours of Le Mans represents "a season within a season"!
In early October, the German brand announced its withdrawal from the world championship.Endurance (FIA WEC), to concentrate its efforts on American Endurance racing in IMSA, and on the Formula E world championship, of which it has been a part for seven years now.
"Our team is not only aiming for the world title this season, but also to raise the highest possible amount of donations."explains Michael Steiner, vice president and member of the steering committee, Research and Development. “Porsche has always embraced its social responsibility. With Racing for Charity, we are continuing our support for seriously ill children worldwide, for the fourth time already. We are delighted to extend this initiative to Formula E.”
Formula E Season 12 begins this Saturday in São Paulo, Brazil.
