McLaren's Formula E adventure will end at the end of the year

Electricity was ultimately only a short-lived project for McLaren, who announced his decision not to continue his participation in the World Championship of Formula E beyond the 2024-2025 season. In total, the British brand will have only competed in the discipline for three seasons.
This withdrawal follows " a strategic review of its racing portfolio ", the team explained in its press release. This decision will allow us to maximize future opportunities " and follows the announcement of its new commitment to the World Endurance Championship from 2027.

As a reminder, with its commitment to WEC, McLaren Racing will become the only team to compete simultaneously in Formula 1, a IndyCar and in Endurance from 2027. The objective is clear: to win the prestigious Triple Crown — the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le MansTo achieve this, McLaren felt that Formula E was an extra program, so it was abandoned.

Which just goes to show that coffee grinder racing is no longer a priority for some manufacturers. This is a harbinger of a decline in Formula E's popularity, as electric vehicle sales are still faltering, much to the dismay of manufacturers... except for the Chinese, who benefit from a buoyant and relatively protected domestic market, aided by highly nationalistic consumers!
