For the inaugural FREC round in Spielberg, Austria, things didn't all go as planned. After an imprudent Race 3 that saw him finish in 25th place, the protégé of the driver development program... Williams This left the field open for the CL Motorsport driver, the unexpected Reno Francot. The Dutchman has indeed taken the lead in the FREC, benefiting in part from the leader's off-track excursion on Sunday.
For his part, Rashid Al Dhaheri (R-ace GP) finished this first meeting as the most exciting driver on the grid. Winner of Race 2, the driver from the junior program Mercedes Benz He managed a remarkable comeback from eleventh position, despite an intense half-hour of racing marked by several accidents and safety car deployments. The consistent Emirati driver was also rewarded, finishing close to the championship leader.
For the French drivers, the Austrian weekend wasn't the idyllic experience they had hoped for. Alexandre Munoz, the French F4 champion and ART Grand Prix driver for the past few weeks, struggled with the demanding nature of the races, despite a pace that surely allowed him to finish in the top five. He did, however, manage to score his first points in the last of the three races, outperforming Jules Roussel (CL Motorsport) and Andrea Dupé (VAR). Both French drivers, hampered by mechanical issues, will need to raise their game for the second round of the season, scheduled for May 22nd to 24th at Zandvoort.
