Winner of Race 1 after a close duel with Evan Giltaire (ART GP), Freddie Slater (Prema) officially becomes the first British FRECA champion in the championship's young history. Leading the overall standings before setting foot in Monza, the Briton still had to distance himself from Matteo De Palo (Trident), second, just four points behind the leader. From Race 1 onwards, the job was done for the new champion, who took the victory while his rival finished outside the points zone.
Polesitter Evan Giltaire had started his race very well. Leading for over 20 minutes, the Frenchman was finally forced to give way after numerous attacks from Freddie Slater. Before approaching the parabolic, the Briton huddled in his opponent's exhausts before taking the lead. In the final laps, the leader took advantage of the clear air to then escape.
For his part, Matteo De Palo didn't have the opportunity to fight in this race. Starting ninth and fifth at the end of the first lap, the Italian was nevertheless involved in a particularly costly off-track event. Having started last, the local driver finished his race in a fine eleventh place, but lost his chance of winning the title this Saturday. He notably saw Frenchman Enzo Deligny (R-ace GP) finish seventh, while the other Frenchman on the grid, Taito Kato, finished fourth, just off the podium. The race was also marked by the deployment of two safety cars, following two major pileups. In total, six drivers were forced to retire, while several favorites narrowly escaped collisions.
