So it's the FRECA champion who will take his place at the front of the peloton at 14:50 p.m. Freddie Slater set the fastest combined time of both groups on his very last pass across the timing line. With a time of 1:44.334, he's a few thousandths of a second ahead of Matteo De Palo, who set the fastest time in Group B, the first to start in the Temple of Speed. The two men will therefore find themselves on the front row.
However, it all almost went wrong for Slater, who crashed at the Ascari Chicane on one of his final flying laps. The Prema driver went through the gravel trap and then onto the grass, where his car took off. He was able to return to the track without damage, heated his tires again on the straight that followed… and secured another pole position!
Australian Jack Beeton will start on the second row alongside Frenchman Evan Giltaire, who took pole position in Race 1 this Saturday. Third in the championship, Frenchman Enzo Deligny could only do 9th in his group, so he will start from seventeenth position this afternoon, while Pedro Clerot, who is only a few points behind him in the general classification, will start tenth.
The field of 26 competitors will therefore set off at 14:50 p.m. for the last time this season, for what also marks the end of an era. It is indeed the last race under the Formula Regional Championship by Alpine, with the FIA taking matters into its own hands next year with the FREC.
