While Louis Sharp and Zack Scoular were the somewhat surprising winners of the first two races of the Formula Regional Oceania weekend at Hampton Downs, Ugo Ugochukwu asserted his dominance on the second day. Winner of races 3 and 4, the American quickly established his dominance. With two excellent starts, and the most convincing driver on the grid in terms of both pace and overtaking, the former academy driver McLaren established itself as the benchmark of this first weekend, naturally taking the lead in the overall standings.

For her part, Kalle Rovanperä did not experience the expected run of form. 17th in her very first race of carAfter finishing 13th in Race 2 the previous day, the two-time World Rally Champion certainly hoped for better on this second day. Also 13th in Race 3, and having made a notable double overtake at the back of the pack, the Finn was undergoing a difficult but ultimately promising learning curve. Unfortunately for him, contact shortly after the start of Race 4 sent him into the wall as he exited Turn 1, resulting in his first retirement in the category. He had, however, started from ninth on the grid after qualifying, having missed pole position by only half a second.

The Japanese lie in ambush before Taupo

While the misfortunes of Kalle Rovanperä and the exploits of Ugo Ugochukwu punctuated this second day of competition in Formula Regional Oceania, the very good results obtained by Jin Nakamura and Kenato Le should also be noted. Fourth, then second for the former, second then third for the latter, the Japanese drivers were unable to keep pace with Ugo Ugochukwu, but established themselves as serious contenders for future victories.

Conversely, Freddie Slater, the reigning FRECA champion and future Trident driver in F3He failed to live up to his expected favorite status. Finishing eleventh in Race 3, the Briton notably struggled to secure good starting positions in this first weekend at Hampton Downs. Fourth in Race 4, he nevertheless made a strong comeback from the middle of the pack, but will need to show more if he doesn't want to fall further behind next weekend.
