The team Racing Engineering shone this Sunday at Spa-Francorchamps. The Spanish team won the double in the GP2 Series sprint race thanks to the duo Alexander Red ? Jordan King, the American achieving his first success in the series since 2013.
Starting from pole, the Briton King did not retain the benefit of his position at the start for long, his teammate Rossi quickly taking control of the event. Behind the Racing Engineering duo who will not be worried until the finish, Nathanaël Berthon (Team Lazarus), second on the grid but author of a complicated start, remained in third position for a long time.
The Frenchman, however, was unable to contain the attacks of Stoffel Vandoorne (ART Grand Prix) and Mitch Evans (Russian Time) who will host the end of the event. After a virtual safety car period following the exit of the track by Frenchman Arthur Pic (Campos Racing), the Belgian, winner yesterday, made an error braking at the last chicane allowing Evans to reduce the gap.
The New Zealander took advantage a few moments later on the last lap, passing the protégé of McLaren braking in Les Combes to get on the podium. Fourth, Vandoorne nevertheless scores valuable new points in his quest for the title.
Artem Markelov (Russian Time) finished fifth ahead of Sergey Sirotkin (Rapax), Nathanaël Berthon and Alex Lynn (DAMS). Norman Nato (Arden) ranks 20th, while Arthur Pic and Pierre Gasly (DAMS) were forced to abandon.
