Anthony Hamilton, father of Lewis, seven-time world champion Formula 1has just announced a new hybrid motorsport championship project. Developed in the United Kingdom, the category, named HybridV10, is presented as a new independent motorsport ecosystem, conceived as a global festival rather than a classic FIA championship.

At the heart of the project, 48 professional seats will be created for modern hybrid single-seaters, divided between 24 cars in the HybridV10 category and 24 in the HybridV8 category. In addition to the drivers, there will be 24 ownership opportunities to take the reins of a team. These will be open to everyone—individuals, sponsors, or manufacturers—with the ambition of broadening access to the highest level of motorsport.

What kind of weekend?

This festival will travel from continent to continent, with each weekend structured around three highlights according to the following program:

Friday : Presentations of technological innovations.
On Saturday: Race day for the HybridV8s.
Sunday: Race day for the premier class, the HybridV10s.

The proposed calendar is based on an "Eco-Loop" concept, with a dozen annual events rotating between continents: the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Australia. The idea is to limit overlaps with major championships like Formula 1 while reducing the logistical footprint through regional rotation.

This model aims to explore new markets in motorsport, while inspiring vocations in engineering and technology. Anthony Hamilton hopes to build global fan communities, extending beyond the traditional homelands of motorsport.

Independent governance

To oversee this ecosystem, the Hybrid World Commission (HWC) was established as an independent governance and integrity body specifically dedicated to HybridV10. Its mission is to establish sporting regulations, event governance, and frameworks for technical innovation. The organization will also define safety standards and their compliance, as well as the points system for the Hybrid Super Licence.

A Fan Steward Authority (FSA) will be established to structure fan participation. An official channel will allow spectators to report concerns related to fair play, safety, or procedural integrity in real time. This initiative is designed to limit tensions on social media, with the risk of misinformation and reputational damage.

HybridV10 will focus on identifying young talent. To achieve this, the championship intends to tackle head-on one of the biggest obstacles to motorsport: cost. The Sim-to-Seat program offers a second, parallel route to karting and to traditional promotion formulas, to access the same merit scale.

The drivers will compete on simulators. They will then be evaluated on their performance, as well as their academic results and behavior. The points earned will contribute to their Hybrid Super Licence, ultimately granting eligibility for real-world testing and then for HybridV10 or HybridV8 seats.

Which drivers are compatible with HybridV10?

Beyond the events themselves, the project includes a HybridV10 Campus, presented as a global Center of Excellence. This base will bring together facilities to accommodate up to 24 teams, technical and engineering development programs, simulators, and training structures for pilots.

To be eligible for a professional drive in HybridV10, drivers must be 20 years of age or older and hold a Hybrid Super Licence issued by the HWC. Qualification routes include, among other things, a top-3 finish in a recognized professional championship (WRC, IndyCar, WEC, NASCAR,F1, F2, Super Formula, Formula E, etc.), an official reserve driver role in F1 or possession of an FIA Super Licence convertible into the HWC points system.

The HybridV10 project and the HWC are being privately developed in the UK by Anthony Hamilton. The indicative plan anticipates 2026–2027 for building a foundational fan community and mobilizing team owners and partners; 2027 for validating car designs and governance frameworks, with pilot testing beginning; and finally, 2028/2029 for holding the first HybridV10 festivals.
