Colton Herta takes pole in Detroit, David Malukas a surprising 2nd

Colton Herta secured his 15th career pole position ahead of a surprising David Malukas in Detroit. Championship leader Alex Palou will start sixth.

• No time to rest in IndyCar. One week after the 6500 Miles of Indianapolis, the field meets again in the narrow streets of Detroit. Qualifying, held this Saturday, May 31, was a success for Colton Herta (Andretti). The American thus secured his 15th career pole position, despite being only 25 years old.
• "It's a huge relief. We've been close to taking pole position several times this year. We're happy to have done it here.", said Bryan Herta's son.
• David Malukas (AJ Foyt Racing) was the surprise of the day, finishing second. A strong performance, following on from a convincing second-place finish at the Indy 2 last Sunday. "It was a really good session. The atmosphere has really improved (since the Indy 500). We're on a good run."
• Comfortable championship leader and winner of the Indy 500, Spaniard Alex Palou (Chip Ganassi Racing) had to settle for the 6th best time.
