Former IndyCar vice president of competition, Bill Pappas returns to the paddock on the team side, joining Dale Coyne Racing.

Dale Coyne Racing hires engineer Bill Pappas

A successful engineer, Pappas had joined the sports arm of theIndyCar in 2016, and notably oversaw the arrival of the 2018 aerodynamic kits, still in use today, with the addition in 2020 of the Aeroscreen developed jointly with Red Bull Advanced Technologies. It would seem that after a decade in this role, Pappas now wishes to return to the team side, and he will serve as a race engineer on one of the two cars of the Chicago team.

Dennis Hauger, the reigning Indy NXT champion, has already been announced as one of the team's two riders, thanks to a new technical partnership with Andretti Global. The second seat is still open at the time of writing. Romain Grosjean He was present at Sebring for the two days of testing, driving one of the Dale Coyne Racing cars, but the Frenchman had told us at Daytona, during the 24 Hours, that he still wanted to return to IndyCar but hadn't signed a contract yet. In recent weeks, the Frenchman has been among the favorites to partner Hauger in 2026.

Bill Pappas is no stranger to Dale Coyne's team, as the American engineer notably contributed to Justin Wilson's victory in Texas in 2012. Previously, Pappas was part of the Patrick Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing teams, contributing to two Indianapolis 500 victories, in 1989 with the two-time world champion. Formula 1 Emerson Fittipaldi, and in 2000 with Juan Pablo Montoya.
