Will Colton Herta go to Formula 1 one day? The 24-year-old American has been linked with a possible arrival in the premier class of motorsport since 2022 when Alpha Tauri was looking for a replacement for Pierre Gasly, leaving for Alpine.

Nyck de Vries had finally recovered the Frenchman's vacant seat, but the question came up again following the announcement of the arrival of General Motors and Cadillac in F1 in 2026. In a pre-season press conference atIndyCar, the Californian appeared tired of the journalists' endless approaches to this subject.

« It doesn't really concern me., reacted the main person concerned. I feel like I've been dragged into this debate for half a decade. I've had the carrot in front of me for a while. I'm a little tired of it being the case, at this point I want to focus on my driving and my goal of winning the IndyCar championship, and if anything comes of that, I should think about it. »

« If that happens, so much the better, and then I should make a decision, if I am still wanted, added Colton Herta, who prefers to use irony. If that doesn't happen, then poor me, I'll be stuck in IndyCar. »

The Californian seems so detached from this possibility that he did not know " not even what the calculation was to get a Superlicense ».

In 2024, Colton Herta finished runner-up in IndyCar behind Álex Palou.

A good driver who has hardly won any titles in the promotional formulas (except in Formula Pacific 1600 in 2013) nor managed to be crowned in the IndyCar Series in 6 seasons. His only feat: since 2019, he is the youngest winner at 18 years and 11 months of an IndyCar race. Not sure that he is the Yankee driver of the future that Cadillac Racing can bring on board!
