Finishing fifth, Palou managed to increase his championship lead over Kyle Kirkwood, despite things looking bleak for both drivers at the start of the race. Leading the opening laps, the Ganassi driver and the Andretti team member were both caught out by the safety car on lap 22, brought out by Alexander's pit stop. RossiHaving not yet made their pit stops, the two drivers found themselves relegated to the back of the pack, and in the battle to make up ground, it was the Spaniard who fared best, with Kirkwood finishing ninth.
Second at Indianapolis, David Malukas solidified his third place in the championship, now ahead of today's winner, Christian Lundgaard. Involved in a first-turn collision, Pato O'Ward lost ground and now sits in seventh place, 89 points behind the championship leader. Next up is the most important race of the year, the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500. While the drivers will likely put the overall standings aside, at least mentally, for this event, the Indy 500 could shake up the established order…
