Despite being injured, Alexander Rossi still hopes to take part in the Indy 500.

Winner of the Indy 500 in 2016, Alexander Rossi He underwent two minor outpatient surgeries, one on a finger of his left hand and the other on his right ankle. Having qualified second, the American driver for ECR still fully intends to be behind the wheel of his No. 20 Dallara-Chevrolet this Sunday for the start of the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500. To that end, he will participate in the final practice session, Carb Day, this Friday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM (Paris time).
After a week of testing marked by a very slight contact with the wall for Takuma Sato (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing), the first crash of the year at the Indy 500 saw Alexander Rossi involved with Pato O'Ward (Arrow). McLaren) and Romain Grosjean (Dale Coyne Racing). The two other drivers involved are completely unharmed, and the current situation is eerily reminiscent of 2023, when, after a full week without incident and a pole position for Álex Palou (Chip Ganassi Racing), Stefan Wilson and Katherine Legge collided during Monday's practice session, injuring Justin Wilson's younger brother and preventing him from competing in the Indy 500. If you're feeling lucky, Josef Newgarden (Team Penske) won the race that year…
"We're driving at crazy speeds, and we know that these cars are all on the limit — mine at least — and that's how you have to drive them if you want to be competitive.", Pato O'Ward confided after leaving the medical center. "And when you want to ride there in the middle of the pack, these kinds of risks can happen. It was just the wrong place at the wrong time, and I'm just glad everyone came out unscathed."
Rossi will therefore use Friday's practice session to assess whether or not he can start on Sunday. If he is not sufficiently recovered, he could give his place to Callum Ilott or Linus Lundqvist, two riders who have been there since the beginning of last week and who have recent experience in the sport.IndyCar and who could participate in a "refresher" session before the race, if IndyCar allows it.
