The American, who arrived in IndyCar In 2023, he joined Ricardo Juncos and Brad Hollinger's team this year, with whom he had previously worked during the Indy Pro 2000 and Indy Lights eras. This announcement may have come as a surprise, given that Robb had signed a multi-year contract in the winter of 2024, which should theoretically have guaranteed him a place on the grid in 2026.

While JHR signed Dutch driver Rinus VeeKay for the other seat, the future of Sting Ray Robb's car was more uncertain, as the team could potentially have chosen to retain Conor Daly, who had a good 2025 season for the team. The Indiana native was ultimately let go, with Sting Ray Robb being presented as a "an essential pillar of the structure we are putting in place for 2026", according to team manager Dave O'Neill.

“His commitment and approach align with the ambition that drives this team. We’ve taken significant steps this year, but we know there’s still a lot of potential to unlock, and 2026 is our opportunity to convert that progress into real performance gains. With the continuity provided by Sting Ray, combined with Rinus’ speed, experience, and track record, we believe this team will give us the means to quickly climb back up the standings.”

While Sting Ray Robb has shown slight improvement in performance in recent seasons, it's undeniable that his budget is the primary reason he's staying in IndyCar for a fourth year. Starting in 2013 with Dale Coyne, he raced for AJ Foyt's team last year before signing with Juncos Hollinger Racing. In the last two seasons, he finished ninth at Gateway in 2024 and Long Beach in 2025, his two best IndyCar results.

So there is still only one seat left to fill for the 2026 IndyCar season, within Dale Coyne Racing. Yuki tsunodawho has just been thanked by Red Bull, where he will serve in a test and development driver role, could be a candidate for the seat, given that Coyne is powered by Honda.
