Third on the timesheet out of the six drivers invited to these driver evaluation tests, Sergeant got back behind the wheel of a car for the first time since the end of his adventure in Formula 1Among WilliamsThe American had a lot to do since he was discovering both the Thermal Club circuit and the Dallara-Honda which he was driving for the first time, after having been able to get a taste of driving it on a simulator.
“I learned the circuit this morning while learning the car, but it was fun”, he told our colleagues at Racer.com. "It's pretty much what I expected. The first few hours weren't bad but there was still a lot to go around."
After a season and a half in Formula 1, Sargeant had to adapt to a single-seater that offers less downforce and power, and is devoid of power steering. Enough to demand a completely different driving style: “I feel like there are a lot of differences with F1, and you have to understand that all cars are different. It’s a good car to drive, and I felt quite comfortable. The car has a way of being driven, different from what I’ve done in the past. So I have to make sure to change a little bit of the ways of doing things that were almost innate, in order to drive the car better. You have to attack in the right way, not just push for the sake of pushing. I have to learn to use the tools at my disposal, and use the tires well for example. It’s always work to learn, we made a few changes to the car that helped me. By the end of the morning I felt more comfortable and I could attack a little more.”
It remains to be seen whether or not Sargeant will attempt to land freelance work in the 2025 season ofIndyCar, or a full-time seat, for example within Dale Coyne Racing. Indeed, with Felix Rosenqvist and Marcus Armstrong, who will be joined by Helio Castroneves At the Indianapolis 500, the MSR team is sold out!
